Lisa-Jo Baker had me at "hello" - or whatever the first words were that I read on her blog. I knew immediately that she got me. When I read her e-book "The Cheerleader for Tired Moms" I laughed out loud and I felt lighter because I knew I wasn't alone. I wasn't the only one struggling through this. I wasn't the only one - as she put it - that didn't want to know how to do motherhood better, I just wanted to know that I could do it at all.
I loved her for delivering guilt-free truth. Truth that would sustain, but not burden.
When she shared she was writing her book Surprised by Motherhood: Everything I Never Expected About Being A Mom I was thrilled. Then she opened up an opportunity to have a sneak peek at the first three chapters of the book before it's official release today (April 1, 2014) I knew I had to get it! I gobbled up the first three chapters and can't wait to finish up the rest! I love her insights, her heart for the Lord, her writing voice, and her stories about South Africa. While reading the first chapters I couldn't believe how quickly I could go from laughing out loud to wiping tears off my cheek. Her story is so real and so touching.

"Motherhood is my Superpower."
-Lisa-Jo Baker, Surprised by Motherhood
"This isn’t a 'how-to' book, it’s simply my 'you can' story. "
-Lisa-Jo Baker
Not only did she deliver three beautiful kids and a fabulous book, but she also shared another gift we me: courage to share my story. Her transparency throughout the process of writing her book, her belief that "I think scared is the new brave ..." really challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. I always thought I would share my story when I no longer was scared to do so, Lisa-Jo challenged me to do it anyway, just like she has done.
I cannot wait to finish up the rest of the book and then tell you all about it.
So, what have you been reading lately?
